Such high-stress moments
are seemingly what keeps Jeff going. “I can't see myself doing anything
else. This is what I was meant to do... I just stayed on the road
and stumbled into it.”
Jeff grew up in Manchester
, CT and is “the baby” of the family with five siblings from all
walks of life. He's always loved mixing sound and is self-taught.
For Jeff, it all began in Atlanta . The year was 1978.
“I was ‘just a kid,' and
I somehow ended up sleeping on a park bench in Atlanta . A buddy
of mine turned me on to a job as a stagehand for the first Police
show in Atlanta . I remember thinking how cool it was and I couldn't
believe they were paying me for it! I went on and worked for Marshall
Crenshaw, Emmilou Harris, Paul Young, B-52s, Talking Heads, REM,
and many more acts. I'm self-taught in that I learned how to ‘turn
knobs' on my own by just watching and instinctively knowing what
sounded good. Eventually, I just started picking up the phone and
planning everything. It was more of a ‘CYA' move that I didn't get
paid for at the time, but I gained the valuable experience I needed
to get me to the point where I would get paid. Now, you could say
I'm a sound guy and a grand project manager. I can do whatever it
takes to get the job done”

George Cowan Associate member
georgecowan101@msn.com
George began
his career in the industry working for Todd Rundgren and Utopia
Sound Studios. During his tenure with Todd, he was employed in virtually
every conceivable technical capacity. He was eventually entrusted
with engineering responsibilities on XTC's Skylarking LP. At the
time he also worked closely with Roger Powell developing and building
a digital synthesizer and accompanied Todd and Utopia on numerous
national tours, culminating in a position as front of house mix
engineer for the now famous Accapella tour.
George
then went to work for Bearsville Studios where again he wore numerous
hats. Not only did he receive engineering credits working directly
with such notable producers and engineers as Bob Clearmountain,
Micheal Barbiero, Chris Kimsey, Scott Litt, and many others, he
also culminated his stint with Bearsville as Chief Engineer before
moving on.
Along
the way George was getting known as an engineer in his own right.
In 1991, he was entrusted with his first major label project; recording
and mixing the album “ 88
Elmira Street ” for the guitarist Danny Gatton. That album was
nominated for a Grammy and has since earned countless accolades.
Since then his career has literally taken him around the
world where he has been applying his trade in and out of the studio.
Lately he’s been seen mixing F.O.H. for the likes of Natalie Merchant,
Joan Baez, Joe Jackson and Todd Rundgren.
